For Memorial Day 2022 I am posting images from the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA. Created in 2005, it is located in a rural area of rolling hills twenty miles southwest of Pittsburgh. With room for 100,000 burials on 292 acres, it looks quite settled and thoughtfully planned.
Each headstone represents the hopes and dreams not only of the person buried here, but of the extended family and friends suffering the loss of their loved one. Multiplied by so many, it feels overwhelming to contemplate the enormity of how it all fits together.
