Education
My studies of digital photography began at Rochester Institute of Technology in 2000. This built on my earlier background in traditional darkroom photography at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC. Having discovered the digital world at RIT, I have focused on printing technology and design as well as photography. The print is the essence of what fine art photographers present, and I fine-tuned my printing skills with course work at the Palm Beach Photographic Center in Florida and individual work with Dan Burkholder in Palenville NY.
B.A. Psychology, Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio
M.S.W., Catholic University, Washington, D.C.
L.C.S.W., New York State
Photographic Journey
My work has evolved in three directions. I began making traditional photographic images, focusing on fine art digital printing in color and black and white. The second direction was made possible by digital technology. I create circular and square images, rotated around a center point as in a kaleidoscope, which I call mandalas; they speak to my interest in spiritual aspects of life. Most recently I have focused on photographing cemeteries, discovering a variety of artistic carving styles mirroring the cultures of the regions and the times. I have created a soon-to-be-published book show-casing these cemetery photographs.
