Friends took us to visit Woodlawn Cemetery in Canandaigua, NY. We were treated to a tour of the beautiful chapel. Douglas Stone, cemetery director for 25 years, shared the history of the chapel and its successful renovation over the past few years. The chapel was erected in 1909 thanks to the generosity of Mary Clark Thompson. It is constructed of local limestone and Medina sandstone.
The stained glass windows were imported from England.
The recently restored Hook & Hastings Pipe Organ was specially built for the chapel in 1910. A closeup of the main window shows the intricate detail of the design.
We were impressed by the great care taken by the maintenance staff, and the modern burial options available. The black granite of the columbarium is highly reflective, mirroring the photographer and landscape against its surface
