Holidays can be tough times for those who are grieving. Memories of past gatherings contribute to renewed grief with a missing place at the table. We may try to carry on with tradition, be cheerful, and act as if we are enjoying ourselves. But underneath it may feel hollow; the joy may be forced. Sometimes it’s hard to push away the loneliness.
Wreaths, symbolizing eternal life, have been used in cemeteries since the time of ancient Greece. Evergreen wreaths have been part of the European tradition at Christmas for centuries. Today we carry on the tradition at our own cemeteries.
