Mt. Hope Cemetery was the first municipal cemetery in the US, designed as a park with a wide variety of trees and plants in 1838. The monument styles reflect the history of monument design and different faiths.
During this visit I focused on the more modern section of the cemetery.
The death of a child brings a depth ofl grief to parents and family that the rest of us can only begin to fathom.
The pyramids of ancient Egypt were thought to be the first above ground structures to house the dead. The pyramid above is a modern day version. The rows of mausoleums at Mt Hope remind me of the residential city streets.
The cemetery has a large section devoted to honoring the soldiers of the civil war.
